Jimi Hendrix to release brand new album

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010
Yes, it's true! One of the greatest guitarists of all time is releasing an album of previously unreleased recordings - 40 years after his death!

Actually, it's the Hendrix estate that's releasing the album on March 9, which will be called Valleys of Neptune and will include a dozen unreleased recordings.

Much of the music of Valleys of Neptune comes from 1969. The album will include covers of Elmore James' classic Bleeding Heart and Cream's Sunshine Of Your Love and performances of original Hendrix compositions like Ships Passing Through The Night and Lullaby For The Summer.

The late star's sister, Janie Hendrix, calls the material a "major revelation" about her brother's musical directions at the time of his death.

As a long-time Hendrix fan, I am definitley pumped-up about this.

It sounds like decades of legal issues prevented the music from being released until now.

Hendrix ignited his career in the U.S. when he played at the Monterey International Pop Festival in 1967. This performance became famous when he set his guitar on fire on stage.

Here's some video from that legendary performance:

You can already pre-order the album on Amazon.
