Tents for Haiti

Friday, January 29th, 2010
As quoted in a recent New York Times article, Niurka Piñeiro, a spokeswoman for the International Organization for Migration, said; “Tents, tents, tents. That’s the word we want to get out. We need tents.”

Right now there is a need for thousands of tents for the earthquake victims in Haiti.

The American Alpine Club is organizing a shipment of used tents. I believe they would take tarps as well.

Here's some information from the AAC blog site:

Mark Richey, past AAC president, and his wife, Teresa, are planning a second shipment of tents to Haitians left homeless by this month’s earthquake. The first big load of tents and other equipment will leave the Richeys’ Massachusetts woodworking business, en route to Haiti, this week. The new deadline for sending good-quality tents (new or used) to the Richeys is February 12. Larger, family-style tents are best, but any shelter is welcome. Please ship tents to:

In addition, Blue Ridge Mountain Sports is offering their retail outlets as drop-off points for tents as well. They will be shipping donated shelters to the Convoy of Hope, a relief agency in Missouri. Blue Ridge Mountain Sports has locations in TN, VA and NJ.
