Get on the Trail with Friends & Missy

Join Friends of the Smokies and fitness expert Missy Kane again for another series of hikes this spring. Each Wednesday throughout the month of April, Missy and Friends will be hiking a different trail in the Great Smoky Mountains.

Ms. Kane was an Olympic runner and a Pan American Games medalist.

"Get on the Trail" is a great opportunity for people who are new to the area, or are new to hiking, as well as people who just want to know more about the Park.

The dates for this year's spring series are: April 4, 11, 18 & 25, 2012.

The cost is $20.00 per hike, and maps/goodies will be provided by Friends & Missy. You must register by calling 865-541-4500 (Covenant Call Center) as space is limited.

Since the series started, Get on the Trail with Friends and Missy has raised more than $80,000 that has supported the preservation and protection of Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Join Friends of the Smokies and fitness expert Missy Kane for a series of hikes next month. Each Wednesday throughout the month of October, Missy and Friends will be hiking a different trail in the Great Smoky Mountains.

"Get on the Trail" is a great opportunity for people who are new to the area, new to hiking, or for those who just want to know more about the Park.

The dates for the hikes this fall are October 5, 12, 19 & 26, 2011. During this year's series, participants will have the opportunity to see the autumn colors and waterfalls on the N.C. side of the Smokies.

Cost for each hike is $15, with proceeds going to the Friends of the Smokies.

Since the series started, Get on the Trail with Friends and Missy, an Olympic runner and a Pan American Games medalist, has raised more than $80,000 for the preservation and protection of Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

This year Friends & Missy will take participants on trails to see wildflowers, waterfalls, and parts of the N.C. side of the Smokies. The hikes are led by Hiking Fitness Expert Missy Kane, Great Smoky Mountains National Park rangers and volunteers.

The cost is $15.00 per hike, and maps/goodies will be provided by Friends & Missy. Beginning in March 2011, you must register by calling 865-541-4500 (Covenant Call Center) as space is limited.

The schedule is as follows:

October 6: Rainbow Falls, 5 miles; moderate; meet at Sugarlands Visitors Center.

October 13: Middle Prong to Lynn Camp Prong Cascades; 7 miles; moderate; meet at Tremont (park in overflow lot before bridge to store).

October 20: Crib Gap and Turkeypen; one-way, 7-mile hike; moderate to easy; meet at Townsend “Y”.

October 27: Clingmans Dome down Noland Divide to Deep Creek; 11 miles (Rocky Top Tours providing transportation).

Cost for each hike is $15, with proceeds going to the Friends of the Smokies.

Day Hiking Basics Seminar

Monday, March 22nd, 2010
Join Missy Kane and Ryan Baxter of Blue Ridge Mountain Sports for an informative session on day hiking basics, local hiking groups and local hiking opportunities. The purpose is to provide knowledge of hiking fundamentals required to build confidence and ensure safety.

The seminar is free and includes light refreshments, handouts and discussion of equipment. The final of two sessions is scheduled for tomorrow night:
