Peakery’s summer peak kickoff

Saturday, July 2nd, 2011
A couple of weeks ago I posted about a new website called peakery, which allows users to keep track of all the mountains they've summitted from anywhere around the world. The user generated photos, trip reports, peak stats, route info, and maps also serve as a pretty good planning and research tool for your next big hike.

Now peakery has informed me that for the month of July they will be holding a giveaway to encourage people to get outdoors, climb some mountains, and share their experiences with peakery. Anyone can enter the contest by signing and logging a summit anytime in the month of July. If you summit multiple mountains during the month, you'll be eligible for multiple entries into the contest.

The contest winners will be selected randomly from those entries, and the prize list will include a GoLite backpack, a Gearpods Backcountry Multikit system, and a Black Diamond Half Dome helmet.

To claim your summits, just click here.

Win a Week at the Tour De France With Liquigas-Cannondale

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011
Team Liquigas-Cannondale is looking for new staff! One lucky Cannondale fan will win the job of a lifetime – a week at the Tour de France, working as an intern for Team Liquigas-Cannondale.

In addition to free hotel and airfare, the grand prize winner will also take home a Cannondale SuperSix Bike with SRAM drivetrain, a SUGOI kit (includes a cycling jersey and bib shorts), and a year subscription to Peloton Magazine.

Five other first place winners will receive a SUGOI kit and a one year subscription to Peloton Magazine.

To enter, all you need to do is submit a short one to two-minute video on the Cannondale Facebook page explaining why you’re the most qualified to serve as Team Liquigas-Cannondale’s newest addition. Included in your video submission should be:

* How the sport of cycling has impacted your life.
* Your greatest childhood memory while riding a bicycle.
* Your most memorable moment from the Tour de France.
* A bike MUST be visual somewhere in the video shoot (it doesn’t have to be a Cannondale)

Videos will be judged on the applicant's displayed love of cycling, passion for the Tour de France and the Cannondale brand.

The top five entrants will be selected and reposted for fans to vote on, with final voting taking place on Cannondale‘s Facebook Page and Peloton Magazine’s Facebook Page.

Submit your video today! The contest ends on June 3, 2011.

JanSport Launches What’s Your Outdoors? Contest

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011
Late last week, JanSport announced the launch of its video contest, What’s Your Outdoors, challenging the traditional definition of what it means to be outside. The contest invites people to share their favorite outdoor spot with JanSport’s community for the chance to win $10,000.

Now through August 31, 2011, JanSport asks participants to film a 360-degree view of their favorite outdoor spot — whether it’s big or small, beautiful or weird. It could be the top of a mountain, the deep end of a pool, in the heart of the city or the furthest thing from it. As long as there is no roof, it qualifies. Once the spot has been captured, the videos are to be uploaded to jansport.com/whatsyouroutdoors, where all submitted videos will be added to a never-ending chain of submissions from around the world, creating a collective definition of what outside really is.

Want to be an official Gear Tester?

Thursday, November 11th, 2010
Backpacker Magazine is again seeking readers who might be interested in becoming a gear tester for the outdoor publication in 2011.

Backpacker is seeking up to six passionate, frequent hikers who understand equipment and aren't afraid to tell it like it is. If you match this profile, you'll need to enter the online contest.

If you happen to be one of the lucky winners, you’ll be given regular testing assignments between May 1 and October 1, 2011. Selected applicants must spend at least 25 nights camping and hike a minimum of 250 miles during that same time period. Winners will be given regular testing assignments and their names (and photos) will appear in the magazine.

To register for the contest you'll need to send a short (150 word) sample gear review of your favorite piece of gear to Backpacker. Also, the magazine is requiring that you produce and post a YouTube video in order to introduce yourself and show why you would make the perfect Backpacker Magazine Gear Tester.

Backpacker editors will choose up to six finalists.

Deadline for submission is April 19, 2011. For more information, please click here.
