Class provides camping, backpacking advice

Monday, January 4th, 2010
Gary Eblen, the community outreach coordinator for Diamond Brand Outdoors, is leading a class next month that will offer tips on hiking, camping and backpacking for people of all skill levels.

“Before You Go Outside,” will be held at the Historic Johnson Farm's Interpretive Center on February 22 at 7 p.m. The cost is $5 per person. The class will include helpful hints, tips and ideas to make camping, hiking and outdoors experiences a pleasure. The class is suitable for adults and students ages 12 and older.

“My goal for this ‘class' will be to encourage people to ‘go outside and play' in our own backyard, whether it be a day hike, car camp or backpack trip,” Eblen said. “I'll offer suggestions on gear, food, books and maps that are now available that will help make their outdoor experience simple and fun. The emphasis will be on people finding their own level of adventure.”

The Historic Johnson Farm's Interpretive Center is located in Henderson County in North Carolina.
