Monday, May 24th, 2010
The results are in and Asheville is the new champ in the annual Beer City USA poll, edging out Portland, OR in the online polling that concluded last night. Asheville received 39.9% of the votes compared with 34.1% for Portland.

Last year, Asheville and Portland tied in the inaugural online poll conducted by the Denver Examiner's, Beer Examiner; Charlie Papazian.

According to Romantic Asheville.com, Asheville produces roughly 50 local brews from nine brewing companies, giving the city one of the highest rates of craft brew consumption in the Southeast on a per capita basis. There are two other breweries just outside of town as well. Click here for a run down on each of the microbreweries in the Asheville area.

All of the Buncombe County breweries will be represented at the Beer City Festival held on June 5, 2010 at Roger McGuire Green in Pack Square Park in front of City Hall in downtown.
